WIPs

I’ve been trying really hard to put off buying any new yarn and starting new projects until some of my WIPs are done. Since that’s all I’ve been doing, I figured I would post some pictures of my progress:

Here’s the Anouk that I’ve been working on for my friend’s baby girl. She’s now 6 months old, but she’s a bit smaller than other babies, so I’ve been putting off finishing this since it’s still way too big for her (it’s 6 month size, but she’s still wearing a 3 month size). I’ve finished the dress and blocked it. I’ve decided to make the pockets to be her initials – AP. My hubby charted them for me, since he is way more artistic than I am. You can see the “A” pocket there, so now it’s just missing the “P” pocket. I’ve also gotten little flower buttons for the dress. This is going to be so cute!

Here is the Cycling Aran cardigan I’ve been working on for my hubby. He requested a cable cardigan, and this was the best pattern we found. I modified it to knit it in the round, and now I’m all the way up to the armholes. Hopefully, this will be done before it gets much colder! I want him to be able to use it.

You might have noticed my black and white checkered fabric – I bought those a while ago to make a blocking board! The blocking board still hasn’t been made yet, since my hubby and I can’t decide on the proper materials (suggestions, anyone?). However, I now have a spare bed so the fabric has been pinned on and I’m using it as my temporary blocking board. It works out quite well.

On other notes and on-goings, we started a Stitch ‘n’ Bitch near my university, so now I get to have a break on Wednesdays and knit for a bit. Last Wednesday was the first meeting, and I thoroughly enjoyed meeting some knitters and knitting away. We talked about spinning and yarn and all kinds of other fiber-related topics. A couple of the other ladies were working on socks, and I got to pick their brains about that since I’m planning on starting my first pair soon. This is going to be so much fun! I really looking forward to this Wednesday’s meeting.

  • So I totally cheaped out on the blocking board and bought some really inexpensive camping mats ($5 each at Walmart). They work great, they are big, and they can just slide behind my pegboard when I’m not using them. You could easily cut them to size, if you wanted to do so. I think they work great in this hot southern climate because they don’t hold any water… who knew? Everything dries SO quickly on them.
I’m looking forward to Wednesday, as well. I will try to remember to bring you some other fiber to spin ;)

  • Be careful getting into socks… they’re addictive!

But, a piece of advice… do NOT have your first pair be a pair of socks for hubby–his feet are too big to make it a fun first pair of socks. Maybe start out with baby socks–you do all the elements of socks, but on a small scale, so if you hate it, you’re not that committed. With all that you can do, though, socks won’t be hard.

Heck, if I can do them, you certainly can!

  • I didn’t know you are working on socks! I want to see!

I made a couple of baby pairs earlier, but I don’t know if I consider them proper socks. They’re knit like socks, so I guess they are, but they’re much thicker (worsted weight) and work more like booties. I’ve been swatching the last couple of days. When I get going, I’ll post pics.
